Our replacement clutches for the Bentley Mark VI, Bentley R Type, Rolls-Royce Silver Wraith & Rolls-Royce Silver Dawn have been developed in association with Padgett Motor Engineers. They came up with the concept and now we are able to bring it to market.
The problem for anyone who has ever done the job of replacing this clutch is that it takes about 12 hours and if the basic clutch unit itself is unreliable then it may even need to be done for a second or third time.
Clearly that time and effort is not an efficient or viable solution for owners and workshops for their Bentley or Rolls-Royce clutch.
What is the problem with the original Rolls-Royce & Bentley Clutch?
Originally these friction linings were made from asbestos and asbestos is now banned because it’s carcinogenic and very toxic. Dust from this type of lining would be very harmful to your health. So there have been a number of modern linings developed but none of them have the properties of asbestos. In practice that means that the adjustment of these three fingers has to be absolutely perfect to get good clutch engagement. Without that there is clutch judder and it is almost impossible to eliminate clutch judder from these cars.
This issue occurs with the Bentley Mark VI, Bentley R Type, Rolls-Royce Silver Dawn and the Silver Wraith with manual gearboxes. There are two types of clutch - a 10 inch and an 11 inch. This clutch kit (RH7199KT) will do either size clutch for your Rolls-Royce or Bentley.
The original problem is effectively balancing the clutch cover. It is very difficult to get these original three fingers perfectly balanced. Most modern clutches which are designed to work with a modern lining are called diaphragm clutches. You will see here you have a huge number of fingers which enables you to get this engaging with the flywheel perfectly flat and perfectly parallel.
Replacing Your Clutch with RH7199KT
Although this is an expensive replacement clutch kit in comparison with the original it does mean is that we can guarantee it will work first time. No replacing again, no trying to get something to work and no putting up with something which is not quite right. You will get a perfectly smooth clutch take up with this modern diaphragm clutch.
The major part of this replacement kit is this included flywheel which is not included with the original. So this is also a good replacement if you have got a cracked or warped flywheel and is why the clutch kit works for either 10 inch or 11 inch options.
This critical surface of the flywheel, because it takes up the engagement of the clutch, has to be as smooth as possible and so this surface is machined to an 8 micron surface finish which is about the same smoothness as glass.
This is an extremely high specification flywheel but that is precisely what you need when you are fitting this kind of clutch lining for your classic Rolls-Royce or Bentley.
It is certainly a good clutch product to consider if you are replacing the clutch or also if you have got problems with the flywheel because the flywheel is included in the kit.
The timing marks are on different sides for right hand drive or left hand drive cars because of the position of the gear selector.

This replacement clutch assembly is designed to remove clutch judder and vibration commonly experienced when using replacement modern clutch friction lining materials. The original clutch was designed for use with asbestos-based friction linings and with the abolition of the asbestos-based lining materials, clutch harshness and judder has become a common experience. This is difficult or impossible to cure using modern friction lining materials, often requiring several very labour-intensive and costly iterations of fitting and testing, with no guarantee of completely smooth clutch operation.
