key washer should be fitted in place of the original key washer RG7392, which was found to be prone to cracking. RG5829 is 0.050" thicker than the original washer part number RG7392. Failure to replace with the strengthened key washer or replacing with RG7392, can leave the gearbox prone to serious failure. This modification applies to the following cars:
• Rolls-Royce Silver Dawn & Silver Wraith
• Bentley Mk VI & R-Type
Gearboxes marked "W1" & W2" have already been equipped with this modification. "Welcome Back! Today I am going to talk to you about this modified thrust washer Bentley Mk VI & R Type manual gearboxes. The part number is RG5829 and it replaces RG7392. It's the thrust washer for the third speed gear. It's 50 thou thicker. This was a factory modification for the gearboxes after production. They did modify the gearboxes so if it's a later gearbox it might already have this modification. If so, you'll find that stamped on the boss of the second motion shaft W1 or W2. If it's got that stamped on the second motion shaft boss then it's already got the modification and you don't need to do it. If you're rebuilding a gearbox then you need to replace this. The old one can crack and cause failure so it's a modification that needs to be carried out if you're reconditioning a gearbox. That's all for today!" Check the RR - Technical Video Library for more.]]>
