This valve plunger is from the engine section in the Rolls-Royce & Bentley parts catalogues for models built between 1946 to 1955.

One required for the high pressure plunger in the pressure release valve and one required for the low pressure plunger in the pressure release valve.

The relief valve is for keeping a steady and optimal oil pressure along the system. As the engine gets warmer or the speed increases, the oil volume demanded will increase, and to maintain the overall system pressure, less oil will be discharged back to the sump. Being the oil is essential to the correct function of the engine as well as avoiding friction, it is recommended to keep this oil and the relief valve working including the components within the car such as the springs and plugs.
