Crankshaft Backplate and Oil Seal for Rolls-Royce Silver Shadow I, Silver Shadow II, Silver Wraith II, Corniche (1972-86), Silver Spirit, Silver Spur, Bentley T2, Mulsanne, Mulsanne Turbo, Eight, Turbo R, and Continental models.
This rear mains cover and seal is commonly used as a retrofit for cars built prior to 1979, which were equipped with an oil thrower. The thrower is equipped with an internal corkscrew machining which, via the rotation of the crankshaft, serves to suck oil back into the engine.
The thrower design, however, is never perfect, and some oil always leaks past, most particularly when the car is at rest and there is no action of the crankshaft to prevent oil passing through.
The Prestige Parts version is supplied with an easyfit applicator, which enables the seal to be passed over the crankshaft without damage, as well as protecting the seal face during storage and transit. You can see how the applicator works in the photographs attached.
For crankshafts where the sealing face is less than 4.5' (114.3 mm) you will also need the adaptor UE37777.
You will also need the gasket UE5214.
