This ignition contact is from the electrical, lighting, heating & ignition section in the Rolls-Royce & Bentley parts catalogues for models built between 1946 to 1955.
The ignition contact set is a switch within the distributor that breaks the primary circuit and causes a high voltage current to ignite the fuel via the spark plug. Also known as a contact breaker, the ignition contact set comprises a set of points that interrupt the flow of electrical current around the primary ignition coil circuit, sending a surge of current to the secondary coil, which culminates in a spark at the coil output.
Since the contact points of the ignition contact set open and close every time the engine turns, they are prone to eventual wear by the electrical current. When the points do become worn out the ignition contact set can be easily replaced, giving your engine a new lease of life.
